Conserve My Planet is an environmental awareness programme initiated by Schneider Electric along with SHARP NGO. The programme aims to educate young minds on energy conservation and instil a sense of responsibility in them towards their environment.
Children from classes 5, 6 and 7 were asked to volunteer for the programme which resulted in the formation of a core team consisting of 100 students. The induction programme was held on the 15th of August. The guest speaker, Mr. Joseph Napoleon, Sr. Manager Human Resources, from Schneider Electric presided over the Independence Day function and gave an inspiring speech to the students. The members of the CMP group took a pledge to conserve the planet.
The second session after the orientation programme was held on September 19, 2014
Mr. Debasish Majumder, Director, Engineering Excellence Centre of Schneider Electric Invensys, was the Chief Guest. He addressed the gathering and emphasised on the importance of energy conservation in all walks of life. He then distributed a Green Kit to the students. Also present were officials from Schneider and Sharp NGO.
The Principal addressed the gathering with an impactful speech reminding students of their commitment towards a “Green Planet Earth”. The students eagerly accepted their role and took a “Green Pledge” to actively work for a sustainable future and to save the earth by conserving energy.
The assembly ended with a photo session of all the 100 green ambassadors with the Chief Guest, Principal and the other dignitaries.

Education is about nurturing the whole child. A human being is not a completely grown person if there is no emotional growth along with physical and intellectual growth. Emotional growth is possible only when the child is given a secure environment, conductive to learning.
Very often young children become highly anxious when separated from their mothers. Bearing the best Interest of the child in mind Chettinad Hari Shree Vidyalayam has implemented the parent programme in which the mother of the Pre-Primary I child accompanies and stays with the child in school for the first six months, that is, till the child completes four years of age. Though the program was held between June and January in the initial few years, in view of the practical challenges faced by working parents, expectant mothers and mothers with a toddler to care for at home, the program has been curtailed and is now being offered for only a month.
Since its implementation seven years ago the positive feedback from both mothers and facilitators has been very encouraging. Children settle down with ease into the school routine comforted by the thought that their mothers are just in the next room. By the end of the programme, the mothers, as a group, become a part of the Chettinad Hari Shree Vidyalayam family thus bringing the school and parents together in our collaborative effort in educating the child.
Here is a glimpse of what we offered this year.

In collaboration with the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY), Chettinad Hari Shree Vidyalayam presented a YAKSHAGANA performance by Shivananda Hegde & Group from Sri Idagunji Mahaganapati Yakshagana Mandali on 22nd September. Myth and legend came to life in our school AV room as the Yakshaganam troupe from Karnataka performed the mythological story ‘Vaali moksha’. Clad in colourful, gorgeous costumes, head gear and elaborate make up, the Yakshagana performers enamoured the audience with their gripping depiction of the events leading to ‘Vaali moksha’. Language was not a barrier and the students eagerly relished every scene. The dying scene of Vaali was so poignant that the audience watched in pin drop silence, breaking into thunderous applause as the scene ended.

The Chettinad Hari Shree Vidyalayam Annual Sports Day was organized at the Nehru Stadium on 24th August 2014. Our students participated in competitive sporting events, witnessed solemn sporting traditions and of course had a fun filled day.
Every sports day the physical education department has tried to raise its standards and this year it was a step up with the amazing atmosphere of our School children running on a synthetic surface and more importantly having the event at a National Arena Jawaharlal Nehru Athletic stadium SDAT Chennai Central.
Sports day started off with a synchronized march past in which our elite athletes took part in and for the first time the meet torch was introduced and was carried by our outstanding athletes in various respects who have performed exceedingly well through this academic year, this was followed by various demonstrations of synchronization, precision, rhythm and strength were performed by our school children with aerobics, yoga and silambattam.
We were proud to have a National Equestrian in Miss Reya Mecca (Currently doing her MBBS at SRM) who obliged us with her presence as the chief guest for the Chettinad Hari Shree Vidyalayam Sports Meet 2014. She inspired us with her words of wisdom on not giving up and how discipline is the stairway to success.
Introduction of new events is a feature that we have every year to increase awareness and raise our standard of performance to the level that is required outside of Sports Day, this year the introduction of 400 mts & 800 mts for (IX-Xth & XI-XII boys) and 400 mts & 600 mts (IX-Xth & XI-XIIth Girls). These events created a platform for our long distances runners to shine.
Parent involvement is something that we encourage and in light of that we conducted a 100 mts dash for the Mothers and Fathers which proved very competitive, some of the parents still had it in them!!! . We also had a teachers race which was entertaining and more humorous.
The prizes were distributed by our chief guest and our principal, we had our individual championships bagged by the fastest and finest athletes of our school.
