Thanksgiving day for the Akkas and Annas

October 18th, 2014

It was planned to organize a Thanksgiving day for all the support staff at CHSV, our special Akkas and Annas, who make the school a clean, healthy, happy and safe space for us all. The event was to be organized with the support of the parents, teachers and admin staff. The teachers were to organize the events for the day.

However, heavy rains played spoilsport and the event had to be called off. It was however decided to distribute the gifts, showing the school’s appreciation for their service. The Akkas and Annas were touched by the affection and concern showed to them. The cultural programmes and tea have been postponed to a later date.

November 8, 9 and 15, 2014

The Welfare committee conducted a survey to better understand the needs of the Akkas and Annas. Analysing their responses, the committee decided by consensus, to provide a comprehensive health check up to all the 63 helpers. Ehrlich Laboratory & Hospital, Royapettah facilitated this check up.

Details of the medical checkup and the statement of accounts are available for scrutiny on request with the accounts office. Kindly contact Ms.Meenakshi Suppiah in the accounts department for details.

A special Thanksgiving program for the Akkas and Annas was organised by the Events Committee of Hari Shree Vidyalayam, with the support and co-operation of all the teachers. The venue was the school AV room and Jayalakshmi Acharya conducted the proceedings. The program started with Mangalam Acharya reciting a poem in Tamil which focused on the dedication of the Akkas and Annas in keeping the school environment spotlessly clean and ensuring that everyone relished the food served in the dining hall every day. Chitra Acharya created and presented a small video which reflected the views of our helpers and how much they adore the school and its children. All of them invariably expressed their happy bonding with the school, its students and teachers.

This was followed by a karaoke presentation by some teachers on popular Tamil songs, with Kamesh Anna playing the drums and many members of the staff joining in to show their remarkable singing and dancing talent. The highlight of the day was a soulful rendition by Ammu Akka. Ms.Anu, from the Admin department then engaged everyone in participative games. The team building games included stringing bangles to create a garland and Tambola / Bingo. Prizes were given to the winners. The event ended with teachers serving coffee and refreshment to the helpers.
