School Lunch Project at CHSV

December 2014

Central Washington University from the United States and University of Southern Queensland from Australia are involved in a school lunch research project for elementary students in Hari Shree Vidyalayam. The purpose of this study is to see if lunches served in schools and lunches brought from home are well balanced and meeting the students’ needs. Participation in this one month long research project is voluntary and based on parental consent.

The components of lunch, served in school or brought from home, will be recorded for study by research assistants. Student lunch intake will be monitored by researchers on campus, questionnaires will be employed to study children’s daily food intake and physical activity, and simple tests will be conducted to determine their body composition. Observations and data collection will be done on random days in December and at the end of this period, general results will be shared with the school. No student names are involved in the data analysis to maintain anonymity.
