Curriculum
 

The school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), which has its origin from the Cambridge School System in the U.K and prepares students for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) Examination after the completion of a ten year course. The course is recognized by all the Universities in India and abroad. The CISCE was established in 1958 by the University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate. The ICSE has been designed to provide a course in general education, in accordance with the recommendations of the New Educational Policy 1986, through the medium of English.

Pre-Primary –Class 1: Children between 3 ˝ to 6 ˝ years go through the Montessori system of education.

Class II-VI: The school follows the XSeed program for these levels. It is a comprehensive program that uses experimental and research based methods that ensure a sound understanding of concepts. It meets the requirements of the ICSE Board.

Class VII-X: The syllabus offered and the textbooks prescribed are in tandem with the guidelines provided by the council.

Second and Third Language

The options for second and third language are Tamil, Hindi and French. For the first time this year Sanskrit is being offered as a Third Language to Class IV children. A second language is introduced in Class I while a third language is offered from Class IV to Class VIII.

Children of Indian nationality are not permitted to opt for any foreign languages as a second language unless they have studied abroad for a considerable period of time and have not had the opportunity to study an Indian language.

Children of Indian nationality who have studied abroad for at least three years and have studied a foreign language during that period may be permitted to opt for that foreign language as a second language in place of an Indian language on the basis of recommendation from the Head of the School, duly approved by the Council. Children of other nationalities must opt for an Indian language as a second language, if they have studied the language previously for a minimum of three years. Otherwise, a foreign language offered by the school may be opted for.

Children who wish to pursue a foreign language as a third language may do so with the permission of the Head of the School.

Computer Education for class II to VIII: Since its inception, Hari Shree Vidyalayam has been in partnership with EZ Vidya for offering the best in computer education. Through its Chrysalis program that aims at a 21st Century Learning Environment, EZ Vidya continues to offer an innovative and effective curriculum.

Evaluation

Class II - V

Evaluation is continuous. A variety of assessment tools is used to monitor the progress of the child. Assessment takes the form of projects, assignments and worksheets. Review exercises will be conducted towards the end of each term for a comprehensive evaluation.

Class VI - X

Students are evaluated on the basis of their performance in mid-term tests, term examinations, internals and the work done during the year. Students should pass in English, Second Language and Mathematics, and attain a satisfactory standard in other prescribed subjects at the examination. Promotion will be on the basis of the cumulative achievement level of the students. A 45% score would entitle a student for promotion. Children who do not meet the promotion criteria may be reevaluated in selected subjects at the discretion of the Head of the school.
