Nat Q Contest 2014 – Final Round

As part of a massive movement to create environmental awareness in school students, Sruti Kendra is organizing Nature Quotient (Nat Q) contests. The 1st and 2nd levels happened earlier this academic year. Winners of the 2nd level participated in the Finals which were held on February 14th 2015 at Dr. M.G.R.Janaki School in Saligramam, Virugambakkam.

iGnite 2015 Debating Champions

iGnite 2015, an educational fest, is a Pro-BTX event conducted by the Department of Biotechnology Anna University for school students. It aims to create in students the right blend of scientific temper, creativity and a desire to explore this fast expanding field of study.

Best participating school award for Chettinad Hari Shree Vidyalayam
Chettinad Hari Shree Vidyalayam won the Best Participating School Award 2014-15 for the Geography Olympiad Test conducted by the I.B.G.B. Learning Society, a registered non-profit establishment by leading academicians with an aim of popularizing the understanding of Geography among school children.

‘Calibre Chimera’ – Cyber Geek Interschool Competition
28th January, 2015
Calibre International School conducted an Inter school Cyber Geek competition at their campus in Mylapore.
Mahendra Kurup and Sri Hari M., Class V students of CHSV, won consolation prizes in Category III (Grades 3-5). In addition to certificates, Mahendra won a USB drive and Sri Hari won a cash prize of Rs.250/-
In Category V (Grades 9-12), Harsh Yadav of Class 9 won a consolation prize, which included Rs 250/- and a certificate.
Namma Chennai – Kids Central Interschool Festival

Kids Central, Kotturpuram organized various inter school competitions in their campus as part of their ‘Namma Chennai’ festival. Students from Hari Shree Vidyalayam participated and won many prizes.

4 CHSV teachers win the GTA award
All 4 of our teacher applicants for the year 2014-15 have won the prestigious Global Teacher Accreditation (GTA) award from Cambridge Education Foundation and British Council.

CHSV’s Design for Change story in the Top 100
CHSV’s entry “Sports for all” has been shortlisted among the Best 100 Design For Change stories at the National level ‘Design For Change School Challenge 2014’. Over 2000 stories of change were received from 24 states and the selection was based on rigorous evaluation by some of the best design minds in the world. Our story received high praise for nurturing empathy, cultivating optimism and for building the collaborative spirit amongst our superheroes!
Our school has been invited to attend the coveted ‘I CAN’ Awards to be held on Nov 22, 2014 at Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The ‘I CAN’ Awards will be an exciting, day-long celebration, including workshops and intimate interactions with inspiring personalities from different domains, such as Rahul Dravid (Cricket Legend), Geet Sethi (9-time World Billiards Champion) Rahul Bose (Actor/Activist), Geeta Chandran (Bharatnatyam Artiste and Padma Shri Awardee).

CHSV students win prizes for Model making
The Rotary Club of Madras Southwest, in association with the Interact Club of Jawahar Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School , conducted the Science Talent Contest 2014 for students of classes VI to XII. As part of this event, a model making competition was held for junior and senior level of students.
Our participants at the Junior level made models employing concepts in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Both the Physics and Chemistry models won the 2nd prize.
The Physics model was based on Sonar and the participants were Samanvitha and Nandini Ganesh of Class VII Vairam.
The Chemistry model was based on the Nitrogen Cycle and the participants were Rishi Krishnan of Class VII Vaiduryam and Pavan Purushothaman of Class VII Maragadam.

A Biology model based on Marine Biodiversity was made by Nithya Narayaswamy and Bhavya Ramkumar of Class VIII Muthu. At the Senior level, Adithya Kidambi and Sriram S. Of Class X made a Mathematics model. We appreciate the enthusiastic participation of these students.

As part of the massive movement organized by Sruti Kendra to create environmental awareness in school children, a Nature Quotient (NatQ) contest was conducted. The first level took place in school on November 6th 2014. Children from classes V-VIII registered for various events.

INDO SRILANKAN OPEN KARATE TOURNAMENT 2014
November 14, 15 and 16, 2014
The INDO SRILANKAN OPEN KARATE tournament was held at P.J.N. INDOOR STADIUM, FATORDA, GOA under the auspices of the Department of Sports, Government of India.
The Goshin _Ryu team of Karate professionals coordinated the mega event.
Hari Shree students N.HARSHIKKHA, DHRUV THIRUMALAI, T.SAICHARAN and MAHENDRA participated in the 3 day event. Karate master Shri Nagamani and his team have been training the students, as part of the after-school activities.
The foursome displayed grit and determination as they fought to secure medals in their respective categories.

K.R. Shriramya wins CCRT scholarship
October 2014
K.R.Shriramya, our Class VIII (Muthu) student, has been selected for this year’s prestigious CCRT (Centre for Cultural Resources & Training) Government of India Scholarship scheme, from Tamil Nadu State, to further pursue her Bharatanatyam Art. She is one among 5 candidates selected from the State and will receive a monthly scholarship of Rs.1000 starting Oct 2014, till she completes her graduate studies.
Shriramya has been learning Bharatanatyam from her Guru Smt. Padma S.Raghavan, Founder Director Silambam, Mylapore – Institute for Bharatanatyam excellence, an alliance of Shree Bharatalaya Chennai for the past 6 years. On 3rd July 2011, she gave a very successful maiden performance (Arangetram) in the presence of senior artistes like PadmaShri Smt. Chitra Visweswaran and Kalaimamani Srekala Bharath. She has since then gone on to give many impressive solo recitals.
Some of her recent performances have got very good reviews in leading national newspapers (The Hindu – July 4th 2014 – Friday Review section ) from acclaimed senior artists. She received the title “Yuvashree Kala Bharathi” in September 2013 for young talented artists in the Performing Arts category.
CHSV wins National level prize at Harmony 2014
Harmony – Co-creating Tomorrow is a tGELF endeavour every year to identify talent from across the country. A series of challenges that began at the regional level culminated at the national level in Delhi on November 1st & 2nd, 2014. CHSV hosted the regional level challenges, where 10 schools participated in 3 events – Sense & Intellect (Debate), Street Benders (Street play) and Mind Games (Chess). CHSV emerged winners in the street play and chess categories at the regional level. 7 students represented Hari Shree in the finals.
Vishwa R of class 8 and Siddarth Sridhar of class 9 bagged the first Prize in the National level Mind Games Chess Competition.

Inter School Art Competition at Shraddha Children’s Academy
September 20th 2014
Shraddha Children’s Academy at Kottivakkam organized an Annual Inter School Art competition for classes V to VIII on Saturday, 20th September. 8 students from our school participated and to our delight, all of them won prizes at the event.
Ashank of Class VII and Saran of Class VIII won the 1st prize. The 2nd prize was shared by Yamini of Class VI, Kavya Ramesh of Class V and Anya of Class VIII. Nivrithi, Krithya and Saathvika won the 3rd place.
Vasudha Vatsalya – Interschool Competitions

Primrose school conducted an Inter school competition to commemorate Friendship Day. Students from Classes VII – IX participated. CHSV students bagged many prizes.
In the Miming competition, Pavithra.S, Pawan.P, Pranav M.S. and Samyuktha of Class VII won the 1st prize.
For the English Essay writing competition, Krithy of Class VII won the 1st place and Sowmiya K, also of Class VII, won the 2nd place for the Tamil Essay writing competition.
Madhusri won the 1st place in Tamil Elocution and Harsh Yadav won the 2nd place for English Elocution.
Krithya of Class VII got the 2nd prize in the Poster making competition.
M. Madheswaran wins laurels in Kaula Lampur, Malaysia
August 29th to 31st 2014
M. Madheswaran of Class VII Vaiduryam was part of the Cricket Federation on India (CFA) A team which took part in the 2nd YSD international Youth Cricket Carnival conducted by the Kuala Lumpur Cricket Association. A total of 16 teams from India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand participated. The CFA A team entered the final but lost against Sri Lanka.
Madheswaran got the Best Bowler Award for his bowling performance in the tournament, taking 12 wickets in 8 matches.

Rakshita Arun and Sreelakshmi of Class X won the 1st place in Fireless Cooking.

Flipper Fest – 14
August 21-22, 2014
The Tree Foundation conducted various competitions on the theme of “Marine Biodiversity” at the Vivekananda auditorium in Anna University. CHSV students from classes VII – IX participated in the events and won many prizes.
Krithya and Ashank of Class VII won 1st place in the Poster making competition.
For the ppt presentation, our Class IX students, Harsh Yadav and Siddharth S. won 1st place.
Srinidhi of Class VIII won 2nd place in the Essay writing competition whereas Oviya, also of Class VIII, got a consolation prize.
The Eco Drama staged by Sreenidhi, Meenakshi, Madhusori, Dilshani, Pragathi and Joshini of Class IX bagged the 3rd prize.
The Model making competition saw Ashwath, Samitha, Sweta, Nithya, Pranav and Samyukth of Class VIII win the 3rd place.

ALLEN CHAMP is an initiative taken by ALLEN Career Institute, Kota to Honour and Mentor the students who are recognized across the globe for being a Prize Winner of any Prestigious Examination, Event, Olympiad or Competition organised at National or International level like the Olympiads conducted by SOF, ASSET, etc. in the last 4 years. Students are ranked based on their performance in these competitions as decided by ALLEN.
Siddharth Sridhar of Class 9 Neidhal, was among top 10 students who were selected from class 8 to attend the final event which was conducted in Kota, Rajasthan on Champion’s Day on 16th August. The final ranking was based 80% on their past achievements and 20% on their performance in the activities conducted on Champion’s Day.
Siddharth was declared 1st in class 8 and has received an educational trip to Europe, a cash award of Rs.21000, a scholarship of Rs.1000 per month for 1 year and a medal as a prize.
CHSV secures second place in the MCTM Inter School Debate

P.C.Siddarth (XII) and Nikhil Viijaynambi (XI) debated with 10 other schools in the inter school debate hosted by MCTM Chidambaram Chettiar Matric.Hr.Sec.School, Mylapore. The boys not only won the 2nd place but also impressed the judges and the audience who heartily appreciated their oratorical skills.
The topic was announced on the day of the event and one team member spoke in favour of the topic while the other spoke against it. The topic was ‘Is Cricket a more interesting sport than football?’
CHSV participates in Sanskruthi’14 and wins overall trophy

Chettinad Hari Shree Vidyalayam participated and won the overall trophy in Sanskruthi’14, a cultural event hosted by Global Organization for Divinity. The event which took place at Ramakrishna School, T. Nagar had a host of events that echoed the theme ‘Long Long ago… in India.’
The gamut of theme based competitions included collage on facets of Indian history, pot painting, stamp designing, T-Shirt painting etc. The CHSV team had a good run at the event with many students participating in the various events. Among the winners were Class X students, Sugitha.P and Saindhavi who secured first and second places respectively in Cartooning India – now and then. In the category of Pot painting-Music, Dance and Folklore, Drishya of Class III, won the 3rd place. The consolation prize along with Rs.250 went to Sriram of Class V Thamarai.
The school also went on to win the overall championship trophy. The CHSV team also received appreciation for its creativity and ability to stay focused on the topic.
CHSV participates in THE BAIT’14
July 18 & 19: 6 students from CHSV participated in The Bait, an inter-school debate competition hosted by Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram, Chennai and went on to reach the semi final.
Avinash Ramachandran, Balasubramanian S, Nikhil Vijayanambi, Radhika Sunil Nair and Sangamithra Goutham from Std XI represented the school in the annual event which had around 30 Schools participating this year.
The competition spanned over two days with the first 3 rounds on day 1. In a remarkable exhibition of team work, Radhika & Sangamithra won the first round to be followed by Bala and Sangamithra who won Round 2. Nikhil and Avinash went on to represent the team in Round 3 and paved the way for Radhika and Bala in the semi final. The CHSV team put up a formidable presence in the semi-finals and ultimately lost to Lady Andal School.
The school has been participating in annual event for several years now, but it is the first time that the school reached the semi-final.
CSF Under 14 Inter School Football Tournament
July 19 – The first under 14 football tournament of the year resulted in the CHSV team securing the 3rd place in the 5- a- side CSF inter- school championship in which the boys from classes VI – VIII played a scintillating three games with a total score of 11 goals.
Rahul from class VIII got the top scorer award for scoring a total of 4 goals in the tournament.
The CHSV team won 8-0 in the 1st game with The Corporation School, Sharma Nagar. In the 2nd game, they lost to Cantonment Board School which won 2-0. The 3rd game with Anitha Methodist School saw CHSV win 3rd place in the tournament with a 3-0 win.

CHSV participates in inter-school cultural
On the 25th and 26th of June, students from class IX and XI participated in ‘KalpaKosha’, the inter-school cultural hosted by Sivaswami Kalalaya, Mylapore.
Around 50 students participated in various events. Siddarth.S and Gokul.V of class IX won second place in the quiz competition, and the dance team, consisting of several class IX girls, received a special mention. The event gave the children an opportunity to showcase their talents and interact with children from other schools.
