Class Assemblies are an inherent routine in our weekly schedule. Besides providing the children an opportunity to interact with the larger group, it also provides a perfect platform for the children to introspect and interact on the core values of the school. To optimise the learning experience, the children are grouped according to age levels so that the activities correspond to their growing needs.

Go Green

February 3, 2017

Madras Ladies Circle 2, an organization committed to meaningful projects in the field of education, environment and social welfare, conducted a special assembly for Primary. The theme was ‘Join the Green Side’, a go green initiative to educate the next generation on the importance of preserving our beautiful planet earth. The children also took a pledge to take care of the environment and saplings were distributed.

Education through Music

February 3, 2017

Anil Srinivasan, one of India’s top pianists, conducted a session for students of grades VI to IX and grade XI on the power of music. He spoke to the students on music and discipline, theme and variation and the concept of open system architecture and relativity in music. He also enlightened the audience about the origins of the ubiquitous ‘Happy Birthday’ song and how it was composed by 2 Math teachers. It was fascinating to note how the music pattern of Mozart’s ‘Twinkle Twinkle little star’ is such that it can be combined with any other tune in the world. Children were mesmerised by the pieces he played to demonstrate his ideas and they enjoyed the session immensely.

Healthy Food and Healthy Body

Resource Speech by Ms.Pankhuri Agarwal, lifestyle therapist, on ‘Healthy Food and Healthy Body’. She enlightened the students on junk food and healthy eating habits.

She also did a separate session on ‘Emotional Empowerment’.

Celebrating Margazhi

To celebrate the month of Margazhi, students of the Primary enacted a play on Andal and sang songs from the ‘Thiruppavai’.

Story Telling – An Enchanting Session

Students of Primary had 2 special assemblies, for grades II and III and for grades IV and V. Facilitators from Crea Shakthi enthralled the little ones with stories during these sessions.

Staying Safe 

A Special Assembly was conducted by Grade VII Maragadham on safety issues. The session dealt with both online safety and personal safety education. The students performed a skit on the perils of disclosing information to strangers online.

Mr. Rupert Seal, a lecturer in property law at the Queen Mary University in London had a session with the students of grades VII, VIII, IX and XI. He spoke about the prospects of law and how law finds a place in every facet of our life.

Ms. Deepa Chakravarthy, who is actively involved in promoting and popularizing traditional dance forms of India, gave a Mohiniattam performance during a Special Assembly. She also interacted with the students and involved them in understanding the nuances of the story being presented.

As part of the ‘Resource Speech’ series, Dr. Sandhya, Professor of Oral pathology, educated students of classes VI to XII on Oral hygiene. Her team is involved in spreading awareness on oral health and working towards eradicating caries in young children.

Waste Segregation – a session by Ms. Radhika Subramanian

Radhika Subramanian, an eco-consultant, spoke to the students of classes VI to XII on waste segregation and home composting. An agriculturist, Radhika is passionate about creating awareness among school children on this pertinent issue. She drove home the point with an actual demonstration on waste segregation and showed videos on how home composting can be achieved.

During the Special Assembly as part of the ‘Resource Speech’ series for classes VI to XII, Mr. Naresh Vajawat spoke on the ways to stay positive in any situation by effectively coordinating the mind and body.

Coping with Anxiety and Stress – Resource Parent talk by Mr. Balaji Sheshadri

July 27, 2016  

Mr.Balaji Seshadri, an eminent speaker, was our resource parent for a special assembly during which he addressed the students on issues related to anxiety and stress, especially during exams. He offered multiple solutions on overcoming and coping with stress related problems.

Citing the example of cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who focused on improving his own results instead on indulging in comparison with others, he observed that this attitude will go a long way during the time of exam results.

Mr. Seshadri also emphasised on the importance of study time, study place and extra curricular activities. He spoke to the students on being calm, relaxed and confident before exams and the huge difference brought about by being well organized.

To remember these tips, he used the acronym ‘BADAM’.

Campaigning against Food Wastage – A special assembly by Class VI

July 25, 2016  

As part of their SUPW project, students of class VI conducted a special assembly for the students of classes II to V. The class VI students have initiated a campaign against food wastage and addressing the primary students was the beginning of their campaign. During the assembly, they spoke to the students about refraining from wasting food when innumerable people are facing starvation. They conveyed this message through a small skit, poems, posters and a moving video. Class VI also led the primary in taking a pledge against wastage of food.

Healthy Lifestyle – a session with Dr.Ashwin Vijay

July 22, 2016  

Dr. Ashwin Vijay, an orthopaedist, conducted special assemblies for classes VI to XII and classes II to V. His session highlighted the importance of right posture in maintaining a strong and healthy back. He cautioned students against carrying their backpacks on a single shoulder and slouching while sitting at their desks. Students also got to know the medicinal value of foods like tulsi, turmeric and beetroot.

Dr. Ashwin Vijay is the founder of the Strength India Movement, whose goal is to create a strong future generation without diseases and to empower the people of India with knowledge to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Resource Parent Talk – Road Safety and First Aid for Life

July 21, 2016  

Dr. G Balamurali, a spine and neuro surgeon, conducted an awareness programme about road safety and first aid for classes VII, VIII, IX and XI.  He stressed upon the importance of road safety and wearing a seat belt in a car and a helmet while driving a two wheeler. His session gave valuable information on first aid and the action to be taken in the event of an emergency. It was an eye opener; after all, the smallest information can save the lives of many.

International Day of Yoga

June 24, 2016 

The students of Primary had a special assembly to commemorate the International Day of Yoga which falls on June 21 every year. The session was facilitated by Ms.Lasya Mavillapalli who is a yoga therapist, holistic life style coach and nutritionist. She is a pioneer in the field of Srishti Krama yoga which is specially meant for children. Students were thoroughly engaged during her yoga session which had colourful presentations and catchy songs based on yoga asanas. The children enjoyed doing simple asanas inspired from nature and animals.


World Music Day

June 17, 2016   

The Primary school celebrated World Music Day as part of their Friday special assembly on June 17, 2016. The World Music Day, which falls on June 21 every year, has become a worldwide phenomenon as countries across the world rejoice and celebrate this day in their own unique way. During our special assembly, we had three eminent people from the field of music, noted mridangist Trichur R.Mohan and his sons Carnatic musicians ‘The Trichur brothers’. They enthralled our students during a session which was highly interactive.  The grand finale had the students clapping along to some energetic music by the ‘Trichur brothers’.
