Archives – Design for Change 2013-14

Project Aim

June 2014

The project aims at sensitizing our students to the need for sports and games in all children. How some children do not have the opportunity to play games like other children. Children have been engaged in a process called design thinking – a user centered process, the empathy that comes from observing users enables design thinkers to uncover deep and meaningful needs (both overt and latent). The process requires reframing of the idea being scrutinized and encourages a systemic view of the field before they jump to solutions.

Project Implementation

June – September 2014

Our class VI students worked with the class V students of Sigappi Primary School on this project. Our teachers, Ms.Bhama Krishnamurthy, Ms.Vithyakamli and Ms.Hema Thirumalai offered the children essential support. Our heartfelt thanks to Mr & Mrs. Kaushik from Ajit Palicha Foundation for their generous sponsorship and to everyone else who have contributed in all ways possible.

CHSV’s entry “Sports for all” has been shortlisted among the Best 100 Design For Change stories at the National level ‘Design For Change School Challenge 2014’. Over 2000 stories of change were received from 24 states and the selection was based on rigorous evaluation by some of the best design minds in the world. Our story received high praise for nurturing empathy, cultivating optimism and for building the collaborative spirit amongst our superheroes!

Our school has been invited to attend the coveted ‘I CAN’ Awards to be held on Nov 22, 2014 at Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The ‘I CAN’ Awards will be an exciting, day-long celebration, including workshops and intimate interactions with inspiring personalities from different domains, such as Rahul Dravid (Cricket Legend), Geet Sethi (9-time World Billiards Champion) Rahul Bose (Actor/Activist), Geeta Chandran (Bharatnatyam Artiste and Padma Shri Awardee).
